0109. 50 Cent Gives Two Cents On G-Unit Rumors, Says 'This Year Is My Year'
gsrf.net: There's absolutely no competition,' rapper says. 'I'm gonna dominate again.
NEW YORK â 50 Cent is starting to get angry again. And as history has shown, that should mean good material for the bulletproof rapper's forthcoming album, Before I Self Destruct, tentatively due this spring.
Responding to detractors who claim G-Unit are over due to a slippage in album sales and rumors about the direction of his project, Fif says he's been feeling the pressure to deliver with Before I Self Destruct. As he explained, he is used to pressure â he already places a lot on himself as it is â and knows what everyone's been saying lately about his camp.
"I heard them talking on the radio about G-Unit is over, because they seeing some of the artists having difficulties," 50 said last week inside his offices during a break from promoting his recently launched G-Unit Books. "What you're seeing is the music business. Nothing just works in the music business. There's no company that has had a higher success rate than G-Unit since I showed up. I've accomplished what took people 10 years to do in business, in three.
"One project doesn't work and G-Unit is over?" he continued. "What about 50? Put that pressure on me. Cause I'mma smash their head as soon as I come back."
Aside from super-producers J.R. Rotem and Rich Harrison, 50 revealed that Timbaland will be another beatsmith helping him smash on his new project. The two have been collaborating recently, and 50 compared the experience to working with Dr. Dre and Eminem. One difference working with Timbaland, however, is the obligation 50 said he feels to use Timbaland's tracks after traveling down to Miami to get in the studio with the producer.
"To be honest with you, I feel pressure when I go in a studio with a producer," Fif explained. " 'Cause I don't wanna waste time. I don't live in Florida, so I have to go to Florida to work with Timbaland. I feel like I'm paying airfare for my entourage, I'm paying hotel fare for my entourage, I'm paying studio time. I'm in there with Timbaland like, 'I need to make a f---ing hit.' I feel obligated under those circumstances. My intentions are to go there and make the record. But if they mail the music to my house, I might listen and go, 'I don't know if that's the record.' But after I came there, I want to make something."
Fif also clarified that his next album won't be as soulful as some have suggested. He's been listening to older R&B lately, but not for direction â it's because there has been a lack of quality releases lately. He's heard Jay-Z's album (good, he said) and Game's album (not so much, he said), but 50's more interested in getting his G-Unit projects out on shelves in 2007.
First will come Young Buck's sophomore album, then Young Hot Rod's debut and then his own LP. But Fif was hush on the rest of his crew, only saying he won't rush the projects and that they'll see the light of day when the music is totally ready.
For now, 50 is fully focused on moving forward with his plans for this year, rather than dwelling on his or his roster's 2006.
"I feel like this year is my year," 50 said. "And there's absolutely no competition. I'm gonna dominate again. It might seem unfair, but I'm gonna do what I came to do."

We managed to squeeze in a few minutes with Fif last week while he promoted his new series of G-Unit street-lit books. The rapper didn't confirm he'd be recording a double album like Whoo Kid mentioned, but he did squash rumors that his next album would be more soul-influenced. "I been listening to more soulful stuff," 50 explained. But he went on to say the album won't veer too far off from what he's already done. "People bought into me and who I am," he said. "I'm gonna keep doing aggressive music. And you know who told me to do that? My grandmother."
While everyone seems to be concerned with G-Unit's decline in sales lately, and their supposed demise, 50 shrugged the lower numbers off as just a temporary pitfall. He confirmed that Young Buck and Young Hot Rod's projects will be the next two G-Unit albums to hit shelves, but Tony Yayo, M.O.P. and the rest will be out when they're ready, he said.
Right now, Fif is focused on his new team â of street-lit writers, that is. He called each of the three already popular authors personally and asked them to pen tales to launch his new book imprint. The rapper said he got into reading more as his touring schedule picked up, particularly his longer flights, and magazines didn't last long enough during the trips. And he was tired of lugging his laptop around. So he decided to set up a deal for G-Unit Books.
Even with his G-Unit businesses booming, 50 is still looking forward to getting back in the booth. He said he's more than ready to come back to even higher expectations. "2007 is gonna be my year," he said. Watch out. ...

gsrf.net: 50 Cent recently revealed to the New York Post that he has plans to release his own brand of condoms.
The Queens, NY rapper, who launched his G-Unit Book imprint via a book signing yesterday (January 4), hopes his condom venture will promote safe sex effectively and plans to donate a part of the proceeds to HIV awareness.
During Thursday's signing, 50 introduced a series of books which included The Ski Mask Way, Death Before Dishonor and Baby Brother.
The G-Unit honcho also has plans to make all the books into films. A screenplay for The Ski Mask Way has already been written and the movie will be shot in the summer.
"The novels are the harsh realities in certain situations," 50 explained toThe Post. "And the actual honest content in the music and the books are a spin-off of that reality. That's what hip-hop about them is. In The Ski Mask Way particularly, there's a character named Seven that's based on me. And there's a portion where he's incarcerated and has to make decisions about his life and how things spin out of control. I've been in a similar space, but I was able to hold on and not spin out of control."
50 also divulged that he is writing a book titled 50 Laws of Power with author Robert Greene. The book will be an urban take of Greene's 48 Laws of Power.
In related news, 50 recently appeared on Howard Stern's Sirius Satellite Radio Show and blasted Ludacris for not defending himself when he appeared on Oprah Winfrey's talk show.
"What's her name? Ludacris, he spent his time on the show in a fetal position," 50 scoffed.
50 has been taking shots at Winfrey for criticizing hip-hop artists and not inviting them to her show. In a recent interview with Elle Magazine, he accused Winfrey of "being black on the outside, but white on the inside," because she only deals with issues affecting middle aged white American women.

AVOIDING AT LEAST ONE FEUD
When the next guest, 50 Cent, came into the studio, he mentioned he was in an upcoming movie, “Home of the Brave,” also starring Samuel Jackson and Jessica Biel. After 50 explained that Samuel once supposedly claimed he’d never work on a film with a rapper, he added the quote was taken out of context, and that they got along fine on the set. However, 50 noted that, although there was no feud between him and Samuel, the same couldn’t be said about his feelings toward The Game, one of his rapper protégés. Fifty went on to insist no one in his posse was currently in trouble with the law, and that he stopped wearing a bulletproof vest everyday because he didn’t think he was any longer in danger.
LOVE IS A BEAUTIFUL THING
Fifty reported he attended Eminem’s remarriage to his ex-wife, Kim, and that he felt the couple reunited to set a good example for their daughter, even though they have since divorced...again. Since they were on the topic of women, 50 mentioned he never got tired of “good p*ssy,” but that he had “a special bitch” at the moment. Fifty also reported he was “85 percent done” with his latest album, and added he was “strongly influenced” by James Brown, mostly because of the sampling of his music he and many other rappers used.
NOT A BIG FAN OF OPRAH
Fifty said he didn’t think Oprah Winfrey did anything for African American women, and that he didn’t want to be on her show. Fifty then mentioned Oprah refused to embrace rap music – which he acknowledged he understood seeing as he didn’t think she ever lived a rappers’ lifestyle – but that didn’t change her feelings about her. Fifty went on to refer to Oprah as a hypocrite, pointing out she wouldn’t let rappers on her show because they said the word “bitch” in their songs, but that she had no problem putting rapists on her program.
DIDDY AND DRIVER’S LICENSES
Fifty noted he had a number of rappers in his label, and that the most difficult part of his job was letting them know when he wanted to stop putting money into their acts. Fifty then admitted he once called P. Diddy “a soft nigga” in one of his songs, but insisted the n-word, in that context, wasn’t a big insult, and that the two had since patched up their argument.
Fifty proceeded to explain how he was arrested in New York City a few months ago for driving a Lamborghini without plates or a license, but that the plates matter was a misunderstanding, and that he got his license from the DMV right after the incident.
WHEN GAY IS TOO GAY
Gay Ramone called in and asked 50 if he had a big penis, but 50 refused to answer the question, insisting he didn’t have a problem with gay people, as long as they weren’t “flaming.” Fifty next acknowledged a woman once licked him in his most private of areas, and that he didn’t mind the experience, although he didn’t request it.
Another caller wanted to know what the difference was between the n-word and “nigga,” and 50 replied certain white people were allowed to use the latter term when addressing him, but the same rule didn’t apply to the actual n-word.
A discussion then started about who in the studio had ever “eaten a woman’s ass,” with Artie and 50 admitting they had, and Fred and Howard insisting they hadn’t. Gary proceeded to get on his intercom to report he enjoyed doing it to a woman, which led Howard to joke that Gary liked it so much because it “improved his breath.”

01/03/07 - 5 questions for Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson
gsrf.net: By Cindy Perlman, New York Times Syndicate
January 3, 2007
What goes through your mind when you get shot? "The blood was flowing out of my stomach, out of my leg and out of my left cheek, where I was shot in the face," Curtis Jackson recalls. "I remember I was on that gurney being wheeled into an operating room. I was strapped down and I couldn't move. I didn't think I would make it."
But he did and, in retrospect, that night when he was shot nine times was the beginning of his rebirth: The drug-dealing high-school dropout Curtis Jackson was reborn as the multimillionaire rapper 50 Cent.
These days, however, the New York-based rapper has been reborn as, surprise, Curtis Jackson. He wants to be a movie star, and for his new film Home of the Brave, set to open Friday, he's billed as Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. Home of the Brave is a sobering, no-holds-barred look at the plight of men and women of the U.S. military returning from the war in Iraq. Chicago freelance writer Cindy Perlman recently sat down with Jackson.
1. Do you think this film will change people's perceptions of you?
"I think, when people hear '50 Cent,' they associate it with aggressive music. I think they might be disappointed when they see my character and he doesn't have the same aggressive edge that they're familiar with from 50 Cent. So I told them to use my real name and put '50 Cent' in the middle."
2. Do you consider yourself an actor or a rapper?
"I always had to be two people. I'm my grandmother's baby in the house, or at times like this when I'm talking to you. That's Curtis Jackson. And then there is the other man who knows how to be aggressive enough to get by in the streets. . . . I spent a large portion of my life being the only person who believed in my ideas. Even my grandparents - and I love them to death - after I got shot, they looked at me like, 'Oh, man, he's still here?' Sometimes when I was a kid, I'd mumble lyrics and my grandparents would look at me like I was just bugging out. You just can't lose faith in yourself, because sometimes that's all you have in life."
3. Having grown up poor, how important is money to you now?
"My grandparents had the largest asset in our family, which was their home. It's worth about $220,000. When they bought it, it was $65,000. That's all my family had to show for our lives ahead of my recording career. I never imagined I would have much. I'd buy magazines and look at Lamborghinis and Ferraris. I was conditioned to like those cars before I could actually talk, but I never thought they would be in my driveway. (Today) I have homes in Farmington, Conn., Baltimore and Long Island. I even own over 1,000 pairs of sneakers, which is a big deal where I come from."
4. You have a son. What's your parenting style?
"I'll walk by and see him on the Internet. Then I'll say, 'What are you doing at Cuties.com?' He's a 10-year-old boy looking at Cuties! I tell him to turn off the computer. But mostly he's spoiled. I don't think there are enough spoiled black kids out there, if you ask me."
5. How has success changed you?
"I stay active as far as being on the circuit. I get around. I'm still saying the same things that got me started. I've been who I am for 28 years before any success. It's only been three or four years that I had anything different happen for me. So my mood isn't different. I still have the same feelings about what's right and wrong. . . . I guess my biggest nightmare would be to be right back where I started on the streets. I think that a lot of people who find success on a music level get to this place and their lifestyle becomes fabulous. Then the music starts to slow down, and they continue to be fabulous. It reaches low at that point, and they fall flat on their face. Face it, we build entertainers in order to destroy them . . . I won't let it happen to me."
